The Cedar Rapids Science Center and the Cedar Rapids Maker Space are hosting the 3rd Annual Mini Maker Faire from 10am-4pm on Saturday, April 19th, at the Science Center located at 5824 Council St NE, Cedar Rapids, IA.
As part of the faire UTOPIA, FOX’s bold new unscripted series that follows a group of everyday people creating their own new civilization, has begun a nationwide search for pioneers to become the first inhabitants of UTOPIA will be on site at the faire! The series is looking for motivated and adventurous people who possess the passion and determination to create and build a whole new world – just the way they want it! Entrants should express their ideals, beliefs, skill sets and vision for their interpretations of UTOPIA.
Kristin Curtin Supervising Casting Producer commented, “Utopia is the biggest and boldest social experiment ever. We are so excited to be at the Maker Faire and look forward to meeting potential pioneers who are inventive and creative at the event.”
Participants must be a legal U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident, at least 21
years of age (on March 24, 2014) and able to commit to a full year as a “Utopian”

Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. The Faire is a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. It’s free to attend the event and explore maker exhibits.
Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community. Makers will demonstrate and exhibit their creative work in science, technology, invention and the arts.
